Back to SUN in the City

Our last edition of SUNdays takes place in West, at Middellandplein. Come join us between 2pm and 5pm, we bring the Circle and a lot of energy to our final SUNday XL program!

Saturday 15 October is the day; The Solar Biennale takes place on Middellandplein during the Love of Things Festival with the program ZON in de Stad. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. you can immerse yourself in the power of the sun! With a program full of performances, workshops and talks, we narrow our eyes and turn our gaze to the sun: how can our most important source of light, be a better and more beautiful part of our daily lives? There is a lot to do in the entire neighborhood during the Love for Things neighborhood festival. For more information, please visit www.omloopmiddelland.nl

To a new perspective

Too often solar energy is still a matter for companies, governments and (mediated) homeowners. We see The Solar Biennale as the opportunity to broaden the conversation to a wider audience. Because, the sun should belong to everyone.

Program SUNDAY #4

Say hello to the sun with some sun salutations. Enjoy the many performances by hoolahoop performer Silke, dancer Brui5er and singer Neila Moon. For this edition of ZON in de Stad, artist Melle Smets will visit you and you can join a tour of Bospolder Tussendijken (BOTU). While walking, Melle shows you how he, together with the residents of the neighbourhood, is reinventing the district.

Suppose you don't have your own roof or you rent a house. How can you get solar energy in your own neighborhood? Energie Coöperatie Delfshaven is looking for the now unused, gray roofs of a few well-known buildings in the neighborhood to provide them with solar panels and tells you how you too can become part of an energy cooperative. In the workshops of Zonnestad, children from 4 to 12 years old will design their own city of the future. By talking to each other and creating beautiful examples, we think together about the city of the future, while our energy coaches amaze the parents with new ideas. We are here to help you with whatever solar question you have.

The Circle

From Monday 10 to 19 October, The Circle will shine on Middellandplein. This large mirrored work of art is a design by Marjan van Aubel; it reflects the sun and the people of the city. If you take a nice picture of it and tag @thesolarbiennale, you have a chance to win free tickets for the exhibition 'The Energy Show' in the Nieuwe Instituut. The Circle is the marker of the Rotterdam ZON in de Stad program and shines in the places where The Solar Biennale comes along with its program.

  • About SUNdays

SUNdays is part of our Rotterdam public program: Sun in the City ánd it's not necessarily happening on a Sunday. Instead on specific dates where we wish to celebrate the sun. SUNdays is created with inspiring Rotterdam-based makers and organizations such as YG Studios Melle Smets, (museum)ParX, Energie van Rotterdam and Zonnestad. SUNdays is happening in Rotterdam, in every part: North, South, West and East!

We always welcome the sun, wherever we are, with the sun salutation. The sun salutation given by YG Studios gives a first warm-up and prepares you for the program the Sun in the City.

We present artistic interventions by Rotterdam-based creatives in which the power of the sun is central; singer Neila Moon, dancer Mark S and hoolahoop performer Silke will experiment with the sun in a residency program. We will be showing the results of this quest at the ZONdagen. We are making this part of the program together with (museum)ParX, Tim Wes and André Marques.
